Consciousness Shifting is a process that allows you to create more and to have fun doing it. Each of our articles have deliberately been written from a conscious language perspective and reading the article will cause you to have an "aha" moment and create shifts. We apply consciousness shifting to every area of life and you can to when you read our articles and receive our consciousness shift of the day blog.
Insane Pace?
Slow Down . . . Here’s How
Have you noticed how much faster everything seems to be going? Everywhere I look it there are people who are desperately trying to do everything they need to do to keep up with their surroundings. It can be exhausting and is probably not the best way to stay healthy and fit.
During the last few years, numerous energy drinks have come on the market too; all with an aim and focus on keeping you going. Drinks with names like Rock Star and Monster are in the cold drink cases in most convenience stores. I wonder if these can really be good for us? How many millions of dollars are spent each day on things to amp up our energy? And why do we believe we need these?

Being the Observer
One of the signposts of a raise in consciousness is the shift in awareness from being identified with the stories of what’s happened to you; being the victim of others, circumstances, and events, to being the observer of life without taking the events of that life personally.
Eckhart Tolle speaks of this shift in his book A New Earth. He says, “Awakening is a shift in consciousness in which thinking and awareness separate.” He goes on to describe this as a process in which the new state of consciousness gradually flows into and transforms everything we do and becoming fully integrated into our lives.

Possibility or Opportunity Today
I often reflect on the turning points, learning and understandings that have impacted my life in profound ways. I will always be grateful for an insight I gleaned from Thomas Leonard years ago while attending a Coachville conference.
The insight that I took away from that conference is the distinction between possibilities and opportunities. This distinction is important because every day we are bombarded with choices, and options. This distinction profoundly changed forever the way I evaluated the options before me.

Congruence
Congruence is defined as coinciding, agreeing or being in harmony. It is an essential element of the process of intention and co-creation. Often we can be 100% resonant with our intentions and still not experience the full manifestation of them.
There can be a variety of reasons for this. In order to fully manifest what we desire, we must live consciously from a place of non-attachment, non-judgment and non-resistance. We must also be congruent.
Is there a place in your life where you’re attached, judgmental or resistant?

Abundance and Reserves
Often when we think of the term abundance, we think of money or wealth, but truly abundance relates to having enough. As a coach I want my clients to have reserves in all areas of their lives. Having enough to just get by is simply not good enough nor will it create the kind of extraordinary life that is possible when one moves out of scarcity.
Reserves apply to all areas of our life; material and non-material. Reserves of time allow spontaneity; reserves of money prevent fear and allow flexibility in regards to what one does with their time. A reserve of energy gives you enough personal power to take advantage of the situation you are in and to enjoy your life. Reserves of household items and food will carry you through an emergency or disaster. Reserves of emotional strength allow you to be there for someone and be truly present when it makes a difference.

Mediocrity or Excellence; What Do You Choose?
(Mediocrity- a quality that is adequate or acceptable but not very good; Excellence- superiority; the quality or state of being outstanding and superior)
I have been thinking a lot lately about the ways our society and culture drives us to accept mediocrity as the norm for our lives. Some of this is so subtle we may not be aware of it and some of it we may think we can do nothing about. I, for one, am tired of the messages that we are pummeled with on a daily basis and invite you to choose to be tired of them as well. To that end I have shared some of the messages and/or assumptions that I feel are the most toxic for you to consider. What if you could create or accept a different reality? What if the pictures that are being painted for you on a daily basis are simply an illusion? If you knew that, would you make different choices?

100 Things
I have been playing with a concept, and that is;
What are the 100 things I would like to do, have, be, or experience before leaving this beautiful planet? I began this exploration myself after noticing that many of the clients I had worked with over the last few years did not have clear and defined ideas of what they wanted to attract or create. In fact, when I asked many of my regular clients to identify 100 things they had trouble getting past the first 20. One friend and client took the challenge and got to 100 easily in a matter of minutes.
I tried this exercise too and was able to get 70+. YIKES! We live in an incredible time of abundance and opportunity and I was sure I would get to 100 quickly. So, this caused me to wonder, what am I reaching for and why? Am I limiting my possibilities and how? If it’s not on my radar . . . something I am reaching for, or intending, or desiring how am I going to attract it? If I have an idea of how it must be and there is another way for it to manifest then I limit the possibilities.
I am not talking about superficial things like going to a movie today. I am writing about the things that would somehow enhance your life or broaden your experience or would just be fun. I wondered too, what I was unconsciously saying no to?
I remember that flying on the Concorde was something I always wanted to do. Obviously, my intentions were not clear about that because I kept putting it off, you know how we may often say, not now, or later. I seem to remember stories about too expensive or not enough time. These types of excuses for not taking action tend to keep us stuck. Anyway, fast forward to now and the Concorde is no longer flying. As I look back with that 20/20 hindsight vision I can see that there were possibilities that would have allowed that experience if I had allowed them.
One of the ways that simplifies looking at 100 things is using categories. For example you could look at what you would like to do, have, be, or experience in the following areas of your life.
- Relationships: perhaps you would like to have a yummy relationship partner who is the list of all of the attributes your perfect relationship partner possesses. Maybe there is a family relationship you would like to heal. Are you wishing to share deep levels of intimacy and connection with another?
- Contribution: what gift(s) do you have still untapped, unexplored, unexpressed that would contribute to the well being of others? How would you like to express that gift? Creating a work of art, learning to drum, writing a book . . . ? Perhaps there is a volunteer opportunity you have yet to explore that pulls your heart?
Running Late
Running late seems to be an odd title for a person who has an intention to be present and in the moment. Sometimes I wonder how one reconciles rules of society with being in the moment. Perhaps the rules create the context for the experience of being.
Today I ran late as I was going to the airport. This is not something new and is a fairly consistent pattern in my life. I choose to ask myself - why when I travel, is it so difficult to get out of the house and why am I consistently running late when I go off to the airport. Without online check in I would never make my flights.
My mantra while driving myself to the airport this morning was there is enough time for everything I value. Now I say this a lot and I had myself convinced I lived my life this way. Yet it seemed something was off and I began thinking about the things I perceived, created or contributed to my delay. It’s always the same resistance to packing, to filing, and bill paying that must be attended to before leaving Dodge.
I had to ask myself is this resistance about leaving? Perhaps I don’t really want to leave the comfort of my home and environment. Or could it be that I don’t like leaving Angel. Truth be told I do love travel and adventure so even though I miss my canine princess I wasn’t convinced I had counter intentions to travel.

Lessons Learned From Authoring My First Book
I have wanted to write a book for a long time and have in the past 10 years or so made many attempts at writing. It was only when I became clear on the big why that I summoned enough juice to finally accomplish this goal.
Most of us look at life in terms of what is missing or what we think we want instead of viewing it from the desired end result. When I became clear on my desired end result and had a big why for the vision I became unstoppable.
But there were a few detours on the path . . . hence lessons learned.
Lesson #1 Stop Editing
The first big lesson I learned about the process of writing was to stop editing as I wrote. Someone had suggested turning off the computer screen and just typing and what a brilliant suggestion that was!
If you have written a book you undoubtedly know this, and if you haven’t, try writing with the computer screen black . . .
Lesson #2 The Buck Stops Here . . .
I also learned that I was ultimately responsible for the end result. During the process of writing and editing the book I employed a copy editor whose function was to be sure the words were spelled correctly and that there were no typos in the manuscript. Although this person assured me that I had a perfect manuscript, I didn’t. The book designer mentioned she had seen a few things that seemed off so, I hired a second editor who found a number of glaring mistakes and corrected them.
Lesson #3 Live Without Assumptions
I had assumed because the first editor came highly recommended that I did not need to check his work. I assumed that if he said it was perfect it would be.
Lesson #4 If You Don’t Like What is Going On Out There, Look Within . .
The events I described caused me to look within because this was not the only area of my life where I was experiencing people who didn’t do what they said they would do. Using the analogy of the mirror I began wondering, "Was I not doing what I said I would do?".
I checked areas of my life that needed some upgrades and this changed much of what I was experiencing.

Now Is New
I had the most interesting and life changing experience a few weeks ago. It was so mind blowing that I just had to share it with you. I was at one of the local restaurants for dinner with a couple of friends and we were discussing being in the moment and how life would be if we could erase the past perceptions about certain experiences and always operate from the perspective of now is new.
Now this may seem like a bit of a weird dinner conversation and you may not have a clue what I am writing about. So here’s the thing. Every experience you have had in your life is written as a memory in the energy system of your body . . . it is recorded there. This is how we learn to do repetitive actions like riding a bicycle or driving a car. We need that memory to gain the skill. Even playing tennis or golf cause us to create a memory pattern of what to do where and when.
Think about being with the person you love, (or if you are not currently in a relationship or marriage think about a past one). Do you or did you experience that person from a now is new perspective each time you were together or from a same old, same old perspective? My guess is that if you are like me and my friends your significant other has become a bit of same old, same old, unless of course you are choosing to experience that person from the now is new perspective.
I bet you’re wondering what this has to do with dinner with friends. I’m getting there. Patience please!

Telling Yourself the Truth
Imagine you are using MapQuest on your computer to find your way from Los Angeles to San Francisco. MapQuest requires that you enter two values. Where you are and where you are going. What do you suppose would happen if you entered a starting point that does not accurately describe where you are? Or, what if this: Imagine you wish to travel to London and you are currently in San Diego. If you input New York as a starting point and London as a destination you would have trouble getting where you are going. You are not beginning your travel in New York.
The same thing can happen with intention and manifestation. In order to create a structure for your journey that gets you to the desired result, you must be honest with yourself about what is. You must tell yourself the truth.

Why You Do What You Do . . .
And Why You May Not Do What You Say You Want To Do
I have often wondered what it was that caused me to not do what I said I wanted to do or to stay in patterns that were not congruent with what I wanted at the deepest levels of my being. The Rockit Method™ of Consciousness Shifting came out of this introspection and reflection and was a direct result of asking that question. One of the things we have learned in working with clients is that there is a significant amount of programming that drives behaviors and actions. This programming or coding has nothing to do with who you are and everything to do with why you don’t have what you want.

The Secret Strategies
By now everyone in the personal development area is riding the tidal wave created by the success of the film The Secret. By using a link to this popular movie, personal development sites have created a huge buzz. In fact the buzz is so huge, it is confusing!
HOW do you KNOW which process, tool or course is right for you? And more importantly, when is enough - enough?
As I look at my own experiences with courses and processes during the past several years I see a pattern that existed in me that you may recognize as one you have too. That pattern cost me thousands of dollars, many hours of time, and lots of frustration. The pattern is to be in acquisition mode of information; thinking you need one more thing before you can step into your power.

More Getting What You Want
Last month I shared with you how Joe Vitale had invited me to speak at his Manifestation 2 weekend so this month we pick the story up there.
I was completing a coaching session for my friend Joe Vitale when he asked me what he could do for me, what I wanted . . . before my mind was able to engage and return a clever answer I heard… "I want to share the podium with you". YIKES I thought, did I just say what I just heard? We talked for a few minutes later and did another bit of clearing when Joe asked if I was planning to attend his Manifestation 2 weekend. I was and told him so. He then invited me to come as his guest and speak to the program attendees. Our agreement was that I would share something of value with the participants during the weekend. So within minutes of declaring something I wanted to do, I was given a way to do it.

Get What You Want With Focus, Speaking the Truth, Expecting Success and Gratitude!
I have had some amazing experiences this month and wanted to share some of them with you. We are always creating our reality with our thoughts and we have the power to manifest in amazing ways when we get really clear on what we want. (Part of the getting clear has to do with eliminating the stuff that is in the way. One of the easiest and most effective ways we know of clearing is our Data-Base Freedom Program™ which was designed for this purpose). This power to manifest in amazing ways is related to how we are using universal law and what we expect. Expecting success is different than having expectations. Having expectations comes from being externally referenced while expecting success is an inside job. So, with all of your thoughts and intentions for what you want, it is important to hold an attitude that expects success.

How to Stop the Negative Attraction in Your Life
Lately, there has been a lot of attention on the law of attraction and manifestation. Books have been published on this and movies, most recently The Secret have been mass distributed on the internet via viral marketing. If you haven’t seen The Secret we highly recommend it and according to Dr. Joe Vitale once you have seen it 7 times something changes and becomes rewired in your mind.
Personally, I love all this attention on the principles that many of us have been tuned in to and practicing for years. I love the renewed hope that has been given to those who on some level had decided that it couldn’t be any better for them and they had better settle for what they have, after all things could always get worse…
What I don’t like is the assumption or belief held by many that if you follow the directions given in a book or you affirm daily something you want, you will attract it. The truth is that you will attract what you are thinking about and focusing on. Every thought no matter how small or seemingly insignificant has resonance that will bring more of what ever you are thinking.

Selling Coffee to the Japanese and Creating the Life You Most Desire
What does selling coffee to the Japanese marketplace 30 years ago have to do with creating the life you most desire? The answer to this question lies in the story of how we are coded in our culture by a variety of influences. For our purposes, think of coding as the unconscious beliefs and thoughts you have taken on that you are unaware of. These thoughts and beliefs limit our experience of life and our self. Every experience we have in our life lives as an energy signature creating resonance or dis-resonance with our goals and dreams. Coding comes in a variety of ways including that which is facilitated via the marketing of products to a particular culture. The messages we receive by commercials give us the impressions that we need drugs to live a good life or that if we are not experiencing what is portrayed on the tube or in print advertising that something is missing. Coding is dependent on the notion of external reference, meaning that we are defined and made whole and ok by things, people and events outside of us.

Presence or Panic, Lessons From a Fire
The day started out as most do, some quiet time for meditation and to create my day, lots of gratitude for the abundance that I experience everyday in friendships and the stuff of life. I noticed I was out of what I normally feed Angel, (my dog), and thought I would grill a couple of pieces of salmon for us to have that day. I started the grill (a propane gas model which is relatively easy to operate) and turned the controls to low to allow it to heat. My intuition drew me back into the house to retrieve my phone as I was expecting a phone call. My home is an interesting design with no right angles in the walls. From my office, I can see through the kitchen and out the door to the deck where the grill was and the surrounding trees.

The 17-68 Congruence Day™
The experiment started as an idea or download. I am really not sure which it was but I had been participating on a group that is focused on manifestation and the awarenesses that are being shared in the Abraham teachings by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I had offered a teleclass for the participants and loved the feedback we received. So we were playing with the intention of creating structures and processes that would help with the manifestation process. I remembered that Thomas Leonard, the father of the coaching movement often offered what he called "integrity days". These were designed to use frequent laser coaching sessions for the participants as they focused on the integrity issue they wanted to clear for a day.
In a fabulous aha moment I got it! Create an updated version of Thomas’s model combining the teachings of Abraham, our Bring it ON process for manifestation, and the powerful processes of The Rockit Method of Consciousness Shifting to support the fulfillment of the desires and vision of the participants. So the idea was born and we decided to offer the experimental version to a diverse group just to see what would happen.

Empty and Make Room
I recently noticed in myself a feeling of depletion and tiredness. I realized that I had unconsciously slid back into doing (a very easy thing to do when you are filled with loads of creative ideas and passionate about sharing what you know). This is something that frequently happens when we do not say no to the endless perceived demands or needs of others. It is also an easy thing to do when we do not make a conscious choice to put ourselves first.
I remember years ago having a card reading with a Native American deck. I have never forgotten the card that represented the wisdom of the grandmothers—this card “Empty and Make Room” was an image for letting go of those things that no longer serve us and in doing so make space for those things that do. Letting go of doing creates the space to embrace extreme self care. This is a choice that serves us very well when we make it.
While traveling to Hawaii I was again reminded of this principle. The flight attendant’s instructions during the safety announcements are to put our oxygen mask on first before helping others. Yet most of us fail to take that simple advice for our lives. Our conditioning has us caring for others instead of ourselves and often will have us feeling that it is not ok to put ourselves first, perhaps even selfish to do so.
If we are to be the best we can be and live our best lives we must learn to choose to put ourselves and our needs first. By needs I am not talking about the behaviors or drivers of action. Here I am speaking about the things that nurture us like quiet, space, time for relaxation, or play.

Creating Supportive Environments
I was blessed to have been a student of Thomas Leonard who is considered by many to be the father of the coaching movement and profession. My first exposure to Thomas was in the mid 1990’s. His book The Portable Coach was published in 1998. The book has been out for a number of years and many of the things that are included in it came from the experiences Thomas had at Coach U and with the many people who came to him for coaching. I am often pleasantly surprised when I realize that what is needed for a client I am working with is something I learned so long ago. The Portable Coach is still a great guide to finding out what is really going on and creating environments that are supportive to us and the fulfillment of our desires.
The work of coaching is really about creating environments that perfectly support our evolution and feel good to us as well. Just as a person who loves scuba diving would not dive in the kelp forests of Monterey Bay without first creating the perfect environmental support for his body (think warm wet suit along with all the other equipment and safety gear essential to that experience) we, as coaches or practitioners, must consider how we will support our clients in creating the environments that feel good to them, support them while integrating the changes that come as a result of our work together and allow them to be their best.

Telling Yourself the Truth
I have often wondered what was missing in the various programs that teach manifestation and co-creation. There are many people and programs teaching a version of this and I know that the results people experience vary from getting it and obtaining what is desired to continued struggle. In our Bring it ON program we have an assessment that is designed to measure what is. This assessment is a pre-requisite to participation in the program. I have always known this was an important aspect of the co-creative process but did not know why. Fortunately in working on myself and with others I have gleaned an awareness of something that is often missed and why that assessment is so valuable.
As coaches, the process of working with clients has us identifying the gap between where the client is now and where the person desires to be. Another way of saying this is to identify the gap between what is and the desired result of the coaching process. What is often missed or missing in the process is the telling of the truth of what is. When we deny what is or we do not tell ourselves the truth of what is, we do not create the structure that supports moving towards what the desired result is.
Imagine you are using MapQuest on your computer to find your way from Los Angeles to San Francisco. MapQuest requires that you enter two values. Where you are and where you are going. So like our coaching process you input where you are, (what is) and where you are going, (your desired result). What do you suppose would happen if you entered a starting point that does not accurately describe where you are? Or what about this one. Imagine you wish to travel to London and you are currently in San Diego. If you input New York as a starting point and London as a destination you would have trouble getting where you are going. You are not beginning your travel in New York.
It is the same with intention and manifestation. In order to create a structure for your journey that gets you to the desired result, you must be honest with yourself about what is. You must tell yourself the truth. This is not to suggest that you focus on the negative or what is wrong. Once you have accurately identified what is and what is desired you can let go and allow the forces of nature to organize the events and coincidences that draw you towards your desired results.
So why is it so hard to tell ourselves the truth? What is it about living this life that keeps us in denial about one or more aspects of our lives?

The Art of Choice
Freedom is often mentioned as a desired result our clients would like to have in their lives. When we drill down to see what freedom looks or feels like in the vision our client is holding we hear things like the capacity to be at choice or the freedom to choose.
The Encarta Dictionary defines freedom as an “ability to act freely; a state in which somebody is able to act and live as he or she chooses, without being subject to any, or to any undue, restraints and restrictions."
As I was reflecting on the idea of choice it occurred to me that there are several elements to the process of choosing. It also occurred to me that choice often serves different purposes in our lives. When we make a decision or choice we set into motion universal forces which support us in fulfillment of our desires. Often it is the energy and quality of the choice that determines our success and end result.
Most of us live in a reactive orientation. Unless we have cleared away what we are habituated to, our conditioning, habits and beliefs will have a role in our choices.
Robert Fritz, in his book, The Path of Least Resistance mentions 8 types of choice that occur from this orientation.

Congruence
Congruence is defined as coinciding, agreeing or being in harmony.
It is an essential element of the process of intention and co-creation.
January is often a time that we take stock and set goals for the coming year. As I was looking at my intentions for 2005 and noticing what had manifested magically and effortlessly, I could not help but notice what had not.
So I asked myself the question: “Why?”
Where was the incongruence if there was any?
I knew I was 100% resonant with my intentions so why had they not fully manifested? It occurred to me that there could be a variety of reasons for this. The goal for all of us when living consciously is to live from a place of non-attachment, non-judgment and non-resistance.
Was there a place in my life where I was attached, judgmental or resistant?
And more importantly was one or more of these states interfering with the fulfillment of my desires?

The Symptoms of FEAR
When working with clients our commitment is always to get to the core or the root cause of the interferences so that our clients can move forward in their lives unencumbered by the past. We have spent much of the last year examining the consequences of the decisions that are made in the face of fear and the operating systems the ego, or mind, puts in place to protect us from that fear. These show up as behaviors and, when we are conscious of them, are not pleasant to experience. Sometimes we are unconscious and unaware that our experience can be different.
Whenever we observe behaviors, attitudes and postures in our clients, ourselves or others that are unattractive, it is likely that fear is the driving motivator under that display of energy. Fortunately, we no longer have to try to cognitively override the consequences of fear or tolerate the behaviors fear causes in our being. These behaviors are, after all, not who we are but a symptom of something else.

Top Ten Ways To Have A Joyous Holiday Season
One of the things I notice when working with clients at this time of year is that they often seem to lose themselves in the demands of the holiday and New Year season. Our perceptions and expectations of ourselves and others can create chaos and exhaustion. This is signaled by relief when it is finally over. What if instead you could enjoy the season and be fully at choice as to how you experience it? Here is my top ten list for being true to you all year long.
-
Take a few minutes every morning to create your perfect day. Reflect on what you want for yourself and others and how you see the day unfolding. The key to this is to not create expectations from it but to allow the universe to magically co-create the day with you. Once created, let it go.
-
Ask yourself how what is on your to do list supports you, your intentions and vision. For every activity on your list ask this question. The truth is that we take on a lot that is not serving us because it is a habit. Become aware of how you are using the precious resource of your life-force. Notice every time you say “I should” and reconsider why.

Choices
I am often asked how it is that I have been able to source and now steward both the process we initially called Thought Shifting now known as Consciousness Shifting and the continuing evolution of the process. The question is really twofold around how it is and what was the pathway that led to the development of this process.
To me it has been a life long journey and it continues to be. I have studied various metaphysical subjects and new thought methodologies for years. Looking for a way to make a difference in both my life and the lives of others, I became a coach. A background in health care and Chiropractic Medicine provided fertile ground for the continuous questions. Questions such as: "What more can I be?" “How can I best serve others?” “Why am I here?” There was always an inner knowing of the innate intelligence of the body: a knowing that was validated as a student in Chiropractic College and a sense that we are all cells in the body of God or threads in the fabric of the universe, if you prefer that analogy.
The bottom line however came down to choice!
Did I choose to believe I could be more?
Did I choose to believe my best life is a life of service to others?

What you see is what you get!
One of the excursions planned for the participants of our group during the Italian Retreat was a visit to the observatory that is part of the University of Bologna. The observatory is located in the mountains in the small town of Loiano. Our visit was arranged for 9:00 in the evening, after another wonderful Italian dining event. During our dinner I noticed a man who had what felt like the energy and presence of the owner of the hotel. He was often passing the room in which we were dining and seemed to be spending a fair amount of time looking in at this wonderful group of women.

Building Reserves
Often when we think of the term abundance, we think of money or wealth, but truly abundance relates to having enough. As a coach I want my clients to have reserves in all areas of their lives. How Do You Know What You Know?
Have you ever been in a situation where you heard or saw something new, the new, new thing? It sounded great and at the same time you wonder can this be true? It is natural to want to connect with ourselves and the freedom that is our birthright. Often we are willing to take something someone says as true and hope for the best. We then become the victims of the promises and claims of others that entrain us to “yes” for a weekend, only to return home to the same old issues and concerns.

Thought 101
Why are thoughts important?
Thoughts are important because there are universal laws that govern how we live and what we experience. The law regarding thought is this:
Thought through mind creates Mind in Action.
If I were to ask you what the greatest power in the world is, how would you reply?
Would you mention a world leader, money or the military of a particular government?
These are all external representations of something bigger and even more powerful. The power of thought which is the power of the creative mind in action is the greatest power in the world!

The Cycles of Innovation
While enjoying the warm waters of the west While enjoying the warm waters of the west shore of Oahu, I began thinking about my journey and all of the factors that contributed to who I am today and the expression of that through my being. Cycles of innovation occur as a result of awareness of a new possibility and integration and synthesis of all that has been experienced and learned.

Attraction and Competition
When we fully understand the principles of attraction, we learn that we live in an abundant universe and that there is no competition other than the story we make up about it! Because of the unique signature of our energy patterns, people who are attracted to work with one person or group would not necessarily be attracted to work with another.

Turning Points
I have always been curious about what we remember and didn’t remember from our formative years and why. As I look back on my life I am able to clearly see what I term as turning points. These are the specific events that created a disturbance to flow in my life. These are also known as precipitating events and as such are the keys to the awareness of what separates us from wholeness; what holds us back, and/or what has propelled us forward often in directions we did not consciously choose.

The Energy of Ignoring
Throughout my life I was told, as I am sure you were, that if something was bothering you to ignore it. If you were feeling badly about something that happened or the way someone treated you, "ignore it" was the parental prescription. Little did our parents or the authority figures in our lives know that the very thing they were instructing you to do was the most toxic of all possible responses.
