How to Stop the Negative Attraction in Your Life
Lately, there has been a lot of attention on the law of attraction and manifestation. Books have been published on this and movies, most recently The Secret have been mass distributed on the internet via viral marketing. If you haven’t seen The Secretwe highly recommend it and according to Dr. Joe Vitale once you have seen it 7 times something changes and becomes rewired in your mind.
Personally, I love all this attention on the principles that many of us have been tuned in to and practicing for years. I love the renewed hope that has been given to those who on some level had decided that it couldn’t be any better for them and they had better settle for what they have, after all things could always get worse…
What I don’t like is the assumption or belief held by many that if you follow the directions given in a book or you affirm daily something you want, you will attract it. The truth is that you will attract what you are thinking about and focusing on. Every thought no matter how small or seemingly insignificant has resonance that will bring more of what ever you are thinking.
Sometime when you are out and about and among people, notice what the quality of the thought is that is being expressed by what they say.
Notice this too when you are communicating. The law of attraction is something we have all been using for years - the thing is most of us have used it to attract what is negative and what we don’t want rather than what we do want. Our conditioning has us living in a sea of negativity - is it any wonder we can’t always apply the teachings in The Secret to our lives? The predominance of negative thoughts and negativity in our lives is amazing when we begin noticing it. For us to really be able to use these principles in a way that supports having all of what we desire, we must learn how to turn it around. The first step in any process of change is to become aware of what you are thinking.
Negative attraction is called worry.
When we are worrying our focus is not on the end result or what we desire—it is on what we fear. Law of attraction says you get what you focus on. And often we do. So how do you learn to stop the negative attraction and, in general, the negativity in your life?
1. Decide what it is that you want. Make a list and think big. Pretend there are no limitations—if you really believed you could get it, what would you go for? Write this down. You must have a target. You must know where you want to go. Dare to dream big!
2. Practice focusing on what it is you want instead of what it is you don’t want. When our energy is directed in this way we begin to create the pathways to bring what we desire to us. Focusing on the end result brings this closer to you. Pretend you have already attracted what it is you desire. How would you feel? What could be even better?
3. One of the major reasons we don’t attract what we desire is we do not ask for it - many of us do not even know what we want. We do know what we don’t want so flip each category of don’t want to do want and focus your energy and attention there.
For example:
I don’t want a relationship that is abusive or feels abusive.
I want a loving and kind relationship.
4. Stop waiting for someone to rescue you or for someone else to do it with you. Only you can take the action that moves you away from negativity and towards what is your birthright. Whenever you notice yourself making an excuse choose a different response and notice what changes in your life. Excuses attract more to make excuses about. Excuses waste your time, and your energy or life force.
5. Notice where your energy goes. By this I mean what increases your energy and what decreases it. In our Consciousness Shifting Programs we teach you to use your body as a compass. What is your body telling you about your environment or surroundings? Yes, this includes people! Environment is an essential element of being supported. Whenever something in your environment affects how you feel, it is your responsibility to look at that and determine what would make you feel better. This is never about making another wrong although it is often about leaving behind people, activities and situations that no longer represent the highest and best use of our time and resources.
6. Recognize that the shift from negative attraction is an inside job—no one else can remove your negativity and if you think they can you are giving your power away. You must find the thoughts you have taken on as true and question them in your own life. You are a complete package and although you may need some assistance navigating through your life, no one else can make these changes for you. 7. Let go of the need to know how this can happen. You prove it all day long with little stuff - so let go and allow and notice. It is so interesting that we manifest lots of things that are ok with us and lots of things that are not –and at the end of the day the same process that gave us what we liked gave us what we didn’t like. Proof of your capacity to attract what you want lies all around you. Have you ever attracted the perfect parking place? Why can you attract that and not something bigger? Is it ok to want something for yourself? One of the things we focus on during our tele-class programs and weekend events is the removal of all the conditioning and coding that is living in us. This creates amazing freedom and allows us to play big. You could choose to be rich!
8. Trust the process and expect success. Expect to attract what you desire now that you have become more conscious of your thoughts. This is different than having expectations of how something will unfold. Remember we do not need to know how. We do need to expect success.
9. Choose to take the actions that perfectly support your vision and your intentions. Stop doing things that you feel you should do. Stop tolerating things that zap your energy or life force, time and money. 10. Live in gratitude for what you have. Gratitude allows us to attract more to be grateful for. Every day practice gratitude by either writing or journaling about what you are grateful for or meditating upon it.
When we are no longer in the energy of negative attraction we are using the law of attraction the way it is meant to be used. We create something better for ourselves and our energy increases. The flow of our lives becomes effortless and we experience the perfection of everyday fully and completely. The more conscious we become the less negative attraction we have in our lives. The great thing about all of this is you get to choose! So will you choose yummy or yucky?
