Pursuit Syndrome or Chasing Shiny Things…
Have you ever felt like there were too many opportunities and not enough time for you to fully access them all? Or maybe you are accessing all the opportunities that are speaking to you and noticing there’s no time left for you. Have you spent countless resources; your time, money or energy on things that did not turn out as you imagined or envisioned; or worse yet you later regretted? Do you have programs and solutions you have invested in that sit on your shelf waiting for the moment you have time to get to them?
I have done all of the above and recently while reviewing my business numbers and expenses over the last 4 years I found that my 20/20 hindsight had me wondering why I had made some of the choices I made. You see I have studied motivation, I know needs drive behavior, I have been choosing consciously and using my body as a compass for years and still there’s a pattern here that I can see. The past is gone and all we have is this present moment so this is not something I was going to beat myself up for; it was something I wanted to understand.
Because quite honestly I am so done with all of this!
Over that past year I have been dancing with the teachings of Bayard Barnes and The Cure Drive.org. Bayard is an amazing man and his Immunics system teaches how to access information specifically about health and well being by getting a signal that connects you to the harmonic of universal intelligence. This testing process allows you to find imbalances and disturbances in your immune system and remove them thus curing many manifestations of disease. As I worked through what is called the Hub on the Cure Drive website, I was drawn intuitively to the section on Immune Dysfunctions.
I tested through the Immune Dysfunctions listed there and found two that both fascinated me and were present in me. They were “Almost” and “Pursuit Syndrome.” To clear both it was recommended that someone on the Cure Drive team be involved as these are a bit tricky. I coached with Bayard himself on both of these and discovered where and how they were showing up in my life. It was so inspiring that I created a program called “Almost to Absolutely” so that others would be able to receive the same benefit I had received in eliminating this dysfunction.
Today’s topic is Pursuit Syndrome. This one has cost me a lot and my guess is it’s cost you as well. If you are someone who has invested in yourself, spending your resources of time, money and energy- and it hasn’t gone the way you envisioned even though you were focused and seemed to be on purpose….you’re likely to be suffering from Pursuit Syndrome. Now maybe you’ll feel suffering is too strong a word but I disagree. To push and work hard in the area of your passion and consistently have your results fall short is not fun. It’s hard work and it’s exhausting. The thing about Pursuit Syndrome is that when it’s operating you will have difficulty discerning which opportunities are right for you and which ones are not. Eventually what happens is you just stop!
Then you begin wondering . . .
- why no matter how hard you have worked and studied and learned you still have not manifested what you dream of
- why no matter how well you plan you run out of time and don’t get to what it is you planned to get to on any given day
- why others are having success and living well and you aren’t
- why you constantly seem to be in catch up mode
- why so many of your projects and activities are incomplete or unfinished
- why you have a low level anxiety/unsettled feeling all the time even when the upper level feeling is well being
- why your tired and overwhelmed
- why you’re stopped and you can’t seem to start again
Welcome to the world of Pursuit Syndrome! I have learned that this is something we may have unconsciously taken on at a very young age and is a survival mechanism of sorts. I have lived in it and now live without it and WHAT a DIFFERENCE! I’ll take without any day!
Pursuit Syndrome prevents us from going deep where we are and from standing in the full expression of our greatness. It creates lack of focus or intense focus on something with great promise that never materializes. It has you saying yes to many things that under other circumstances would be a no. It has you giving up everything, even self care for your business or goal. It has you pushing to succeed and believing that you need to. Pursuit Syndrome interferes with your intuition.
