Thought 101
Why are thoughts important?

Thoughts are important because there are universal laws that govern how we live and what we experience. The law regarding thought is this:

Thought through mind creates Mind in Action.

If I were to ask you what the greatest power in the world is, how would you reply?

Would you mention a world leader, money or the military of a particular government?

These are all external representations of something bigger and even more powerful. The power of thought which is the power of the creative mind in action is the greatest power in the world!

What is Mind in Action?

Mind is the great creative force that is accessible to all of us. It is the field of all possibility. It is natural to use the power of Mind. It is so constituted, that it must act. We must think and when we think with consciousness and awareness we put into action the Mind.

Look at some of the quotes that have been attributed to well known thinkers and creators:

“A man is what he thinks all day.”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Every thought has the power to bring into being the visible from the invisible. It is absolutely necessary for us all to understand that everything we think, do or say comes back to us. Every thought, word or action- without exception- manifests itself [in some way] as an actual reality.”
~Ann Wigmore

“All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts we create our world.”
~Buddha

Thoughts create our beliefs. Our beliefs create our feelings. Our feelings (Emotions) create our experience.

Everything begins with our thoughts.

It is the thoughts, beliefs, fears, habits and conditioning that create the conflicts or barriers between what you desire (your intention), and what you have.

When you become aware of what thoughts you have given life to, you are able to make a different choice.

Thomas Leonard (the father of coaching) coined the phrase “The Absence of You” several years ago. He then created a teleclass Program by the same name. The intention of this program was to become aware of and rid oneself of anything that no longer served who you were being when being your best self. It prescribed and described a state of being that was independent of all of the thoughts, beliefs habits, shoulds, and assumptions that were not inherently who we are.

I was one of the fortunate participants in The Absence of You program and I will always be grateful for the understanding and awareness that Thomas created in all of us as a result of this body of work. We had frequent conference calls and buddy coaches who we worked with in this area. Sometimes we were lucky enough to be coached by the man himself. It was an extraordinary experience!

There are many examples of conflicting or contradictory energy patterns that may be operational within you. These include and are not limited to:

It really is amazing when you think about all of this and learn that much of what is integral to your way of being is not you at all! It is the illusion of who you are, that has been perpetuated by unconsciousness and conditioning.

Thoughts are things. They are energy patterns. Every experience you have had in your lifetime is recorded somewhere in your body as an energy pattern. These are often in the form of beliefs that limit us.

Here is a simple exercise that you can use to surface some of your limiting beliefs:

Create a list with two columns:

The list will detail what you have in your life that you like and what you have in your life that you do not like.

Here are some examples:

I Like…

I Don’t like…

My home

My level of financial security

My family

My job

I am a great cook

My car

I am a great dancer

My body

If this were your list you would now ask yourself what did I believe that created the things I like? Did you believe you could have a home that you would like? Did you believe you could dance well?

What are the beliefs you held that created and sustain that which you do not want? Do you believe you can be financially secure? Have you ever experienced financial security? Do you believe that because you never have had it you can have it now? Do you believe you can manifest or create a job or the job of your dreams? Do you believe you can have a different car; one that would be more pleasing to you in everyway?

Do you believe your body can look good to you and others?

For each of the things you have listed, ask yourself what would I have to believe for this to be true?

Take the time to do this exercise on your own list that you have created. The point of the exercise is twofold:

  1. to become aware of the ways you are creating with your thoughts that support who you are and what you desire.
  2. to become aware of the beliefs or thoughts you have that limit your capacity to create in certain other areas.

Most of us do some part of our lives well. Most of us are relatively happy with one aspect or another of our lives.

The same skills and processes that created what we are pleased with create what we are displeased with.

So, to change your life you simply must change your thoughts.

For some thoughts, simple awareness is all that is needed to cause a shift. For other thoughts and long held beliefs it may be necessary to apply certain tools and processes to support the shift.

The coaches of the Rockit Coaching Group are well versed in surfacing these beliefs and supporting you in dismantling them. You can work with us in person or by telephone. For more information contact Karen @760.329.9173
