Want Off the Hamster Wheel?
Here Are My Top 5 Ways to Slow Down
Are you noticing how much faster everything seems to be going? Have you ever felt like you were running as fast as you could and still you can’t get everything done you need to do? You’re not alone! What happened to the idea of taking time to enjoy your life?
We have created lots of ways to try to do more with the limited time we have and many of these are not terribly healthy for us. We are programmed to live an adrenal lifestyle full of substances that are designed to keep us energizer bunnies going! It’s a push and it’s not sustainable. But you do it anyway and then you wonder why you are exhausted and have no time to enjoy life. Recently I stopped drinking coffee. Now I wasn’t someone that consumed a lot; just one or sometimes two cups per day. I was amazed at how much more energy I had and how much smoother the flow was for me during the day.
I realized that although I teach my clients to notice the pushes, (adrenalin) and the pulls, (passion and values) that even the small amount of coffee I was consuming was adding to the pushes and depleting the pulls. What I mean by the push and pull is simple. Our values and passions pull us forward, they give us energy. The things we embrace that we do not value or have passion for are often fueled by adrenalin - that’s a push and that’s not yummy or sustainable.
In the visioning process we use and teach there’s a step that asks who is this for and why do you want it. If you are going for something that’s not for you or if you want it for the wrong reasons; (perhaps you think you need to do it but you’re not truly called to it), you will not be able to sustain it.
We have been conditioned and programmed to add more and to keep adding more to our forever lengthening to do lists.
What would happen if we embraced slowing down and doing less instead of trying to keep up with the rapidly expanding universe?
If there was a way you could be more effective and productive than you are now, with 40-60% less effort, would you want to embrace that experience and opportunity? If I could show you how to get all the energy you need and more without consuming chemicals to get you there, would you be interested? What would your life be like if you could take time for you without feeling guilty about not working?
Years ago when Thomas Leonard was alive he began talking about the Absence of You concept. The idea was to take away anything that was not serving you so you could be the best you could be. Thomas understood and taught that real effectiveness in life was fueled by passion instead of adrenaline.
When you begin eliminating all of the things in your life that are not consistent with or congruent with your intentions, an interesting thing happens; you will experience much more energy and time too!
Most of us live from the view point that when we do this or add that to our already busy and cluttered lives we will then have what we need or want. This stalling tactic is really nothing more than an energy thief.
Here are my top 5 ways to slow down that insane pace, leave the hamster wheel, and enjoy the resulting peace and relaxation that occurs:
- Become very clear about what you want in every aspect of your life. What do you want in terms of relationships, your physical being, your mental and emotional being, your financial well being, and your spiritual well being? You get to choose. Most of us have shut down our capacity to desire something for ourselves. Begin a list of 100 things to do, have, be or experience before leaving the planet.
- Get that most of the aspects of your life as you’re currently experiencing it are driven by your unconscious programming that was accumulated during the first 7 years of your life. It’s no longer relevant! The circumstances don’t create matter, your state of being does! (If you would like to lose it quickly and effortlessly consider Consciousness Shifting. - Whenever you are considering doing something, ask yourself the following question: “Is the action I am considering one that moves me closer to or further from my desired end result?” If the answer is anything other than yes, consider eliminating this task from your to-do list.
- Take a look at your to-do list and sort it into 4 categories as follows: To do immediate time frame, (within the week) to do maybe someday (to be reviewed weekly and moved if appropriate) /delegate it / and dump it. Take the prescribed action for each category.
- Let go of past mistakes and regret. Being in this moment is the only place to be, as this is where the action is! Should haves, could haves, and would haves are not taking you where you want to go. In fact they are taking you away from what you most desire. (If you’re holding on to the past or experiencing regret or remorse we can clear it quickly with consciousness shifting).
Remember, it’s not what you do that counts, it’s how you do it!
Live fully with consciousness shifting!
